Dear Parent/Guardian,

As we continue to work together to help students learn from home, it is important that you and your child are aware of our plan regarding grades for the remainder of the school year. We strongly encourage all students to engage as much as is possible in our distance learning over the next eight weeks. Teachers are working hard to provide pertinent instruction and meaningful feedback for students on critical content for the rest of the year. While the model looks much different than what is typical, there is still an opportunity for students to continue to learn valuable skills that will help prepare them for their next grade level in the coming weeks.

Teachers will continue to provide feedback to students either via Google Classroom, Paper/Pencil Packets, or in Virtual Google Meets. I am incredibly proud of how quickly and competently the Narrows View teachers have been able to provide quality instruction to students in this new virtual format. I am also very impressed by how hard students are working.

Grading at the Intermediate level will look different than in years past. No student’s grade will be harmed during this time. All UPSD Intermediate students who had a passing grade going into the closure on March 13, 2020, will be able to keep or improve their grade. Our guidelines for final grades are as follows:

  • All students will receive either a letter grade (A, B, C) or a No Credit.

  • All students will have the opportunity to keep or improve their grade in every class through distance learning opportunities through the end of the school year. We strongly encourage ALL students to participate in distance learning in all classes through the end of the year.

  • No student will receive a grade lower than what was in the gradebook at the time of closure (March 13, 2020).

  • No student will receive a D or F as a final grade.

  • Students who are not able to engage in distance learning who had a D or F on March 13, 2020 will receive a No Credit for their final grade.

You can expect a progress report during the week of May 11 - May 15 as an update on your child’s engagement and progress.

I encourage you to contact your students’ teachers, counselor, or me directly, if you have questions, need support, or have any concerns. Know that we miss seeing your children every day and are working hard to connect and provide meaningful learning and support.

Thank you, stay home and stay safe,

Jennifer Wong, Principal
